Surrendering The Self Life
The self life doesn’t automatically disappear, Jesus surrendered His will and so must we. The Cross is central for this.
Luke 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
There isn’t enough room for two – the born again christian has one new nature. You’re either a new creation or you’re not, the Jesus disciple is to believe this and obey God and not satisfy the self life. Obedience is relationship – a knowing and experience of God. True understanding of God comes by obeying.
Being Touched by the Living Word Is The End Of Self
John 7:15,16,17 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
The Jesus disciple is to desire the end of self and settle it – it’s an affection of the heart. If you don’t have this affection ask for it.
Am I stopping God from speaking to me? Relationship depends on communication – listening and talking – the enemy attacks to stop this close communication. Am I getting second hand what God is saying to me?
Relying on the preacher to hear from God is not enough and tends to idolatry. It costs to seek God first so it has to be an affection of the heart. Obedience is not self effort – it’s being touched by The Living Word. The surrender of the self life allows God to touch you in mind body and spirit.
John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
Psalm 19:7-11 Is The End Of Self
Psalm 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
