..Those who often don’t know how to pray it could be because most of their praying that they do is centred around themselves and their world. Unfortunately that is characteristic of so many professing believers. So much of their praying is centred around themselves .. their little kingdom. And that is why they don’t really learn to pray. They don’t see their prayer beyond themselves. ‘ Jesus Reveals How We Should Pray .’
Well that is not what The Lord’s Prayer is about. That is anything other that yourself. It’s huge, it’s vast – The Lord’s Prayer. It contains everything within it as we’re going to have a look at. But that often is one of the problems. And that is why – as we turn back to Matthew six that I want to start of with verse seven. Because it says here in verse seven:
But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Matthew 6:7
Who Are You Praying To?
So when the heathens pray – did you know that the heathens pray? Did you know that allot of people that don’t really know Jesus – they still pray? They pray to God. And of couse we pray to God. But they don’t know who this God really is. It is just somehow some abstract word. It’s some being or someone who looks after me. You know – to God. But of course there are many Gods – demi-gods and so on. But who is our God? His name is Jesus the king of kings, the Lord of lords. God in Christ reconciling the world. So He says don’t have these vain repetitions and that is what happens when you don’t really know the one who you are praying to. That is why it says in the Word:
And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. Colossians 3:17
And prayer is a deed. So the scriptures clearly tell us that whatever we do we do all in the name of Jesus. If we are truly doing all in that name then we do not come out with those vain repetitions as the heathens do. They think they will be heard for their many words. And their many words are often coming out in fear and unbelief.. ..
