Luke 18:8 I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”
The Persistent Widow
.. Many do not have a persistent faith, and this is the problem.. [Luke 18:1-8] The Wise Virgins – that extra oil in their vessel contains a persistent faith. It is a persistent faith.. an enduring faith that will not give up. ‘ I will not be denied ‘. That is what he’s saying here.
Total Dependence On God
.. All of this leads.. to ‘The Rich Young Ruler’.. One of the things He’s saying is ‘ if you’ve got much riches you won’t need to do that much knocking.. because you’re not really that desperate. you can pay for everything.. for your medical care.. your insurances.’ God wants us to believe and trust The Lord in these things..
Luke 18:27 Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”
.. He clearly shows in this whole chapter in many ways.. why it is that there isn’t this faith and so asks whether He will find a believing people when He comes. Will they really have faith.. or is their faith in the ‘ arm of the flesh?’..
Ask, Seek, Knock
.. We can begin to see why The Lord addresses these things in our lives as He has done over the years. He’s looking for those who are believing.. trusting.. standing on these promises.. not giving up.. not taking second best. Their faith is like this persistent widow, it’s knocking.. knocking all the time. It’s pressing in. You see the obstacles of life fight against our belief. He’s raising this up, he’s showing the obstacles that are in life that will fight against our faith.. .. ..
Hebrews 12:25 See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven? 26 At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” 27 The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.
28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, 29 for our “God is a consuming fire.”
O Love, that wilt not let me go, I rest my weary soul in Thee; I give Thee back the life I owe, That in Thine ocean depths its flow May richer, fuller be. 2 O Light, that followest all my way, I yield my flickering torch to Thee; My heart restores its borrowed ray, That in Thy sunshine’s blaze its day May brighter, fairer be. 3 O Joy, that seekest me through pain, I cannot close my heart to Thee; I trace the rainbow through the rain, And feel the promise is not vain That morn shall tearless be. 4 O Cross, that liftest up my head, I dare not ask to fly from Thee; I lay in dust life’s glory dead, And from the ground there blossoms red Life that shall endless be.
